MATS began in 1972 when Paul K. Young, former Kentucky Motor Transport Association President, and a few industry friends had an idea to develop a show in the eastern half of the United States. Their goal was to create an event that was more accessible to professionals in the heavy-duty trucking industry, specifically owner-operators and fleets. Their idea and hard work laid the foundation for what would become the largest heavy-duty trucking tradeshow in the world.

Daniel grew up in the business and began working at River City part-time when he was 15. After high school, Daniel went to the University of Louisville to study History with a focus on Sociology. He also took several business classes and has since received his BA from U of L.
